“Closing the Gap” does not disappoint. I attended 4 sessions today and was
completely blown away by all of the information that I learned.
Probably the best session of the day was Proloquo2go. This is a program that uses pictures and text
to help non-verbal students create spoken sentences. One of my students uses Proloquo2go, but,
besides making some IEP goals for the program, I have not been able to sit down
and figure the ins and outs of the program.
Well, everyone in the session was provided with an iPad2 that had Proloquo2go
installed on it, and the presenters were the team that developed the
program. The program that we worked on
was version 1.7, which has not yet been released, but will be in the next 2
weeks.
Being able to work on this program was invaluable because,
not only did I learn a lot of tricks and tips that I can teach to the student who
uses Proloquo2go, I was also able to attend the session with the speech and
language pathologist who is working with the student. We were able to come up with some great ideas
about how to use the program in many different environments and for many
different purposes.
Another great thing was that one of the developers came out
for lunch with our school team, so we were able to pick his brain to find out
how he envisions how the program should/could be used.
Awesome.
